Kanjii is the last born in a family of three with two older sisters. He grew up in Nairobi where he attended Makini Primary School and later Nyeri Baptist High school. He was an avid basket-baller in high school but had to drop the sport because he was more passionate about music. He loved music so much that in high school he formed a group called Turning Point. In 1997, he decided to pursue music as a career when the World Vision Choir chose him to be their Kenyan ambassador. A year later, he left for the United States where he enrolled at Biola University to build his music career. Kanjii, later on, went to Dallas Sound Labs to learn more about the music business. While in the US, he formed the music group Milele with three of his friends.
He came back to Kenya in 2003, where he set out to make an impact in the music scene. Kanjii formed the agency Kijiji Entertainment with his wife which that was inspired by his desire for music. While it started as a distributing company, it grew with time, and they opened a studio and branched into a record label.
Some well-known artists who are signed under the name include Joseph Hellon, Aaron Rimbui, and Esther Kathumbi. The agency has also dealt with musicals, and due to the need to grow further, in partnership with Zuku, they produced the Groove Theory.
